We’re delighted to announce that we’ve been awarded £1500 from Wade’s Charity for outdoor activities and resources to help grow our unit.
The grant of £1500 was awarded to 1st Leeds Children’s Hospital Guides & Scouts on 1 August 2017 from Wade’s Charity, an organisation that has been awarding money since 1530 to benefit community groups and open spaces in Leeds.
The management committee applied for the grant as our first summer as leaders and young members alike have requested more activities and resources to use outdoors – and with hopes are running our own Cub Camp/Pack Holiday in the near future.
With these funds in place, the unit should be able to purchase tents, outdoor cooking equipment and play resources suitable for everyone at the unit to use.
Our Group Leader, Laura Stubbs, says: “We’re over the moon to have received this grant nine months into our unit’s running. Since we opened we’ve been speaking to our young members about what they’d like to see and top of the list is getting outside! We have some fantastic outdoor spaces at Leeds General Infirmary so this grant is going to help us do more out there and hopefully help us plan our very first Cub Camp/Pack Holiday.”
The unit have since started meeting in LGI’s Rose Garden (when the weather allows!) and hope to meet outdoors more regularly.
